Method

How Endure reaches a conclusion, and what it will not claim. Every engagement is a claim about how something works. These are the standards that claim has to survive before it reaches a client.

A method needs enough structure to keep the analysis bounded, with room left to notice what that structure did not anticipate. The order of looking changes with the problem.

The diagnostic comes first, because nothing built on a wrong read survives contact with the real system.

Look Before Concluding

Go to the primary evidence before accepting anyone’s summary of it: the place itself where there is a place, the drawings, the records, the data as it was recorded. The first read is provisional and gets revised when another layer of evidence appears.

Projects often begin with an answer already in circulation. Endure treats it as a claim to check before anything is built on it.

In Endure’s own research on one project, a search of all 2,278 paragraphs of one city’s zoning chapter found no accessory dwelling provisions at all. The limit cited by prior work on the project traced to a generic secondary source rather than to any ordinance, and the project was rebuilt around the provisions that exist.

Keep the Record Apart From the Read

What a document says and what Endure concludes from it are marked separately, and stay separate in anything handed over. Where two sources disagree, both are carried and neither is quietly chosen. What happened is described without inventing why anyone wanted it.

A company’s financial records appeared to identify its worst performing project manager. Reconstructing which projects he had inherited, and when, changed what those numbers meant without changing a single one of them. A record can be accurate and still answer the wrong question.

Follow the Effect Back

A visible effect is evidence, not yet an explanation. The work goes backward through the conditions that could have produced it, and separates what is established, what probably contributed, what remains possible, and what the evidence rules out.

On a project where Endure provided field supervision, ductwork was drawn through space that turned out to be too small once insulation and installation clearance were accounted for. The field rerouted it. One reading of the record calls that a coordination failure; another calls it a pattern of deviating from the drawings. The record carries both.

Know the Edge

Some questions belong to a structural engineer, an attorney, or a historian. That question waits on their answer. Whether the rest of the work waits with it depends on whether the answer blocks what is left. What comes back is carried into the recommendation rather than worked around. Endure does not provide licensed architectural or engineering services.

A mechanical package Endure prepared for one house carried a measured survey, a preliminary load estimate and a proposed duct layout, and said in its own opening that it was not a certified calculation, should not be represented as one, and should not be built from until the selecting mechanical contractor or licensed designer ran the required calculation in approved software. It then said where to inspect the assumptions if their result differed.

Take a Position

Endure reaches conclusions and says them plainly. Those conclusions come after the evidence. Evidence narrows what the record can support. The remaining options are weighed against the client’s objectives and constraints, with Endure’s stated positions affecting the preference where they apply. A reader can tell in advance what kind of read they are likely to get. A client can disagree with the preferred position and still get value from the options and tradeoffs the analysis surfaced.

On one house, Endure developed a ducted heat-pump direction that the owner did not pursue. The load calculations, sizing, and room-by-room figures still gave the owner a basis to examine contractor proposals. Several proposals differed substantially from those loads without showing how they arrived at their numbers.

What the Work Produces

Evidence separated from judgment. Open questions stay visible, with a name attached to each. The options that survive the evidence, with what each one costs and forecloses. A preferred position where the evidence supports one. And the questions that belong to a specialist, identified rather than answered.

The client and Endure’s role are settled in writing before work begins. Conflicts known at the outset are stated then, and any that surface later are raised when they do.
